A Change In Plans

One of the great things about having a house on wheels is you can change directions anytime you want to! We are completely fed up with the rain. The weather forecast for wine country for the next 10 days is, you guessed it, RAIN. Time for a reroute.

I have to be in Eugene Oregon on May 25th to get certified as a window repair technician (more on this in an upcoming post, I've said that a few times now, so I'll post details soon). From now till then, we are going to head to Sonoma. Then over to Utah and hit Salt Lake City, St George and Moab. We were then going to work our way over to Eugene via Idaho.

Change in plans! We still plan on hitting all of the areas, but changing the
direction a little bit. We will now be hitting Sonoma and Napa in month, rather then now. That should get us out of the rainy season.

So here's what the new route looks like, now through the Memorial Day holiday:

  • Today through the 10th in Gilroy, CA. We'll be getting our leaks fixed on the coach. Also be at the Sea Otter Classic mountain bike festival. I'm still debating on whether or not to do the race. I would race on Sunday and, of course, rain is predicted. We will also stop by Monterey and Carmel and do some wine tasting.
  • We will take a couple of days to drive to Sedona, AZ. If you're a regular reader, you know this is our favorite place. We'll be there for a week, mountain biking and hiking. Every trip to Sedona must include a stop at the Cowboy Club for a cactus Pear Margarita and Cactus Fries!
  • From Sedona, drive up 89 to St. George and Kanab, Utah . The plan is to be here for a week. The highlight of the trip will be the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab. Will be volunteering some time helping to take care of the animals. Can't forget Zion National Park.
  • From St George, Drive up to Moab, Utah where we will be meeting up with some our mountain biking friends from Michigan. A group of them are taking a trip to Moab the week of April 24th. Our friend Bill sent us an e-mail to see if we could meet up with all of them. We will be spending the 27 & 28th with them. I'm looking forward to that!
  • We'll then be heading up to Salt Lake City to visit our friends Karen and Rich, formally from Michigan, now enjoying life in Salt Lake! We had the opportunity to meet up with them in Paris, France to watch Lance win his record setting 6th TDF, in 04 what a great experience that was! That was the last time we saw them! Look forward to seeing them from April 30th through May 2nd.
  • Head towards Sonoma/Napa from Salt Lake. Taking a few days to get there, possibly stopping in Reno. This will be just about a month from our original date. I'm hoping the rain will be gone by then. We'll take a road trip down to San Francisco to see Laura's friend Athena and our step-sister Leah.
  • After Sonoma, we will head up the Northern California coast with stops in Eureka (home of Hombolt Fog cheese, our favorite!) and Kamath.
  • We'll then move into Oregon with stops in Medford and Grand Pass before our stop in Eugene. We'll stay put in Eugene until after the memorial day holiday!
Boy, that's was a lot of planning! But, as I said in the previous post, as the family vacation season starts, we have to have plans in advance. We really enjoy the opportunity to meet up with people in our travels. I'm really glad our Michigan pals let us know they were going out to Moab. It will be great hanging out and riding with them again!

It really is an awesome life when you can just pick-up stakes, change all of your plans and reroute yourself, for the sake of visiting friends, or because you don't like the weather!!!!!!!
